Trust Me I'm Lying

This book by Ryan Holliday details the inner working of online media. As architects, you are leaders in society, and it is important that you are not swayed by clickbait article titles. The purpose of the news is not to inform you, it is to get you to watch more news. This can also be true in the world of architecture blogs. Be smart. I Moved to NYC!

I have wanted to live in New York City ever since I first learned about it. At some point in my life I wrote down my "bucket list," a list of things I wanted to do before I died, and there were two items that were at the top of the list: "become an architect" and "make it in New York City." I couldn't bring myself to put one above the other, so they were both tied for the #1 spot on the list. W...

What is Architecture?? I tell my kids’ if you can draw ✍️ you will never starve. Your dad’ could break my back…take the house and bank account!! I will still be ok!! All I have to do’ sit in a wheel chair on Market Street Sydney and show off my designs.. people will come to me’ Not because I am in a wheel chair BUT because they genuinely like my designs!! Now I may have to modify my original designs based on clients budget BUT that’s ok!! Not everyone is a movie 🎥 star who can afford PRADA designed 100k dress BUT the fact remains “if the house of PRADA” wanted to design $1000 dollar dresses for the mass market “they are most welcome” BUT the house of PRADA” chooses NOT to play in that segment!!!!

I got 100 for my very first plate, and I still find it dreadful. I wake up everyday going to school dreading making plates. They said I will eventually learn to love it, but reall I don't see myself being an Architect for the rest of my life. I think I'm called for Medicine and the only thing keeping me in Architecture is the Title of a Noble Profession.

Architects tend to inflate their role and importance. Most architects are average designers but always compare themselves to Frank Lloyd Wright or Le Corbusier. Most architects are nowhere near as talented as either Corb or FLW. Sorry but let's be honest. All the architectural firms I've worked in hire, or have on the clients project team: Structural engineers, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineers at a minimum. Code consultants, acoustic consultants, landscape architects, and sometimes many more consultants. Architects have little if anything to do with structural design, and many other aspects of a building that lay people think they handle. They do overall / general planning and design and coordination of many different sub consultants. A good architect's design direction has a profound and enormous impact on a finished projects look and feel but there are literally hundreds of different kinds of specialized expertise involved in any significant project.

A friend of mine worked in one of the large and very well respected architecture firms firms in Toronto (KPMB). I was kind of dissing interior designers one day and he said that he worked with some interior designers on some theatre projects in Toronto and they brought a lot to those projects. I think there is a parallel with landscape architecture. Sometimes people don't understand what they do but the difference in quality between a large project which involves a landscape architect and one that doesn't is immediately palpable.

Wrong. They are decorators who sometimes know a little about code and ADA. They are not, in any way, equivalent to an architect. They are, at best, a specialist advisor in decoration.

aren't most architecture schools dropping BArch professional and just offering 3-year MArch professionally accredited? I did 5-year BArch prossional followed by 1.5 years MArch post-professional. It was the most FUN I have ever had in architecture. Building technology is necessary but SO boring. Earlier I did 2-year college diploma in building technology. Spoon fed.

I’m here because I’m currently on my first year and I’m having the doubt of “should I quit” like if I want to this is the right time!!!! Like I’m only 19 yrs and I think later will be too late. I love architecture and I’m so passionate about the art part. I really enjoy making models while I’m listening to music o draw my plans, all the studio part. But when it comes to subjects that includes physics or construction I panicked, I simply don’t enjoy it and I’m not good at it. When I said this out loud people tell me, it doesn’t matter the major you take you’ll always have subjects where you suck at it, but idk I feel like all the structure related subjects and construction are literally the 70% of the career and architecture life. So, I feel like I’m wasting my energy and lately I’ve been feeling so emotionally and physically exhausted. Because, I see how my classmates are so good effortlessly and I put all my effort, kill myself studying and anyway I still struggle. That’s why I think I should quit and choose a path where I can success while putting on all my potential. I wanted to pursue a fashion design career but architecture felt like a more safe choice. So my first thought was, I will study architecture have my diploma and later go the fashion industry, just like some designers. But right now I’m feeling too overwhelmed and overthinking everything. That’s literally why I was watching this video and I still don’t know what to do :( I don’t wanna feel like a failure, I love architecture but I think it is more than just love. (Sorry if something it’s not grammatically correct, English it’s not my first language)

i think is more about the people you can relate too than the knowledge it self i more the experience meeting one to one with the architects that you admire and maybe polishing your architecture yes definitely expensive , but architectural practice is more the day to day , in a master you have time to reflect on your own stuff , not for everyone agreed
